NAD+ Dosage: The Doses Studies Used for Drips, Shots and Oral NMN or NR (2026)

Disclosure: Nadosei sells an oral NMN supplement. This page reports the doses that studies and clinics used. It is not dosing advice. The sources are at the end of the page.

People search for "NAD+ dosage" because NAD+ comes in very different forms: IV drips, shots and oral precursors such as NMN and NR. The amounts differ for each form, and a milligram in a drip does not equal a milligram in a capsule. This page lists the doses that published studies and one clinic price list used, so that you can talk about them with your doctor.

The quick answer

Form Doses in studies or on a clinic list
IV drip 750 mg over 6 hours (2019 study) [1]; 500 mg a day for 4 days (2026 study) [2]; 250 mg and 500 mg drips on one clinic list [3]
Shot 100 mg and 200 mg on one clinic list [3]; we found no published trial in healthy adults
Oral NMN 150 to 1,200 mg a day in 10 randomized trials [5]
Oral NR 100 to 1,000 mg a day in an 8-week randomized trial [8]

These are the doses that researchers and one clinic used. They are not a recommendation. Ask your doctor before you choose a form or a dose.

NAD+ IV drip doses

  • 750 mg over 6 hours: in a 2019 pilot study, 8 healthy men aged 30 to 55 received 750 mg of NAD+ in saline at about 2 mg a minute. Blood levels did not change for the first 2 hours, because the body removed the NAD+ from the blood as fast as it came in [1].
  • 500 mg a day for 4 days: in a 2026 study of clinic records, each 500 mg drip took 97 minutes on average, and people reported moderate to severe symptoms during the drip, such as stomach and gut symptoms, a faster heart rate and chest pressure [2].
  • Clinic lists: one New York clinic lists 250 mg drips at $400 and 500 mg drips at $500 [3].

For drips, the speed matters as much as the dose. In the 2026 study, the symptoms made the NAD+ drips longer: 97 minutes against 37 minutes for drips of NR [2]. Read more in our NAD+ IV therapy guide.

NAD+ shot doses

One New York clinic lists NAD+ shots of 100 mg and 200 mg [3]. We found no published trial of NAD+ shots in healthy adults (PubMed search, October 2026), so no study tells which shot dose works or how often. Compounding pharmacies make these products, and the FDA has warned that some compounders used food-grade NAD+ for injectable products [4]. Our NAD+ injections guide covers shots in more detail.

Oral NMN doses

  • 150 to 1,200 mg a day: a 2024 review of 10 randomized trials with 437 people found NMN doses from 150 to 1,200 mg a day, for 4 to 12 weeks [5].
  • 300, 600 or 900 mg a day: in a 60-day randomized trial of 80 healthy middle-aged adults, all three doses raised blood NAD+, with the highest levels at 600 and 900 mg. The trial found no safety issues [6].
  • 250 mg a day: a 10-week randomized trial in postmenopausal women with prediabetes used 250 mg a day [7].

Our NMN dosage guide covers the NMN trials one by one.

Oral NR doses

  • 100, 300 or 1,000 mg a day: in an 8-week randomized trial, NR raised whole-blood NAD+ by 22%, 51% and 142% at these doses within 2 weeks. The trial reported no flushing and no difference in adverse events between NR and placebo [8].
  • Up to 1,000 mg twice a day: in a small open-label study of 8 healthy volunteers, NR was well tolerated with no adverse events [9].

Why the numbers do not compare one to one

500 mg in a drip and 500 mg in a capsule are not the same amount of NAD+. A drip puts NAD+ straight into the blood. NMN and NR are precursors: the body must absorb them and turn them into NAD+. The molecules also differ in size. NAD+ weighs 663 g/mol and NMN weighs 334 g/mol [10] [11], so the same number of milligrams of NMN contains about twice as many molecules as NAD+.

Safety notes for each form

  • Drips: moderate to severe symptoms during the drip in the 2026 study [2].
  • Drips and shots: product quality depends on the compounding pharmacy [4].
  • Oral NMN and NR: well tolerated in the trials on this page [6] [8] [9].

Ask your doctor before you start any form, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition, or take any medicine.

The bottom line

No single NAD+ dose fits every form. Drip studies used 500 to 750 mg at a slow rate, clinics list shots of 100 to 200 mg, and oral trials used 150 to 1,200 mg of NMN or 100 to 2,000 mg of NR a day. Only the oral forms have randomized trials in healthy adults. Nadosei gives 500 mg NMN per serving, inside the range of the NMN trials, paired with research-validated companion compounds.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

How much NAD+ should I take?

No study sets one dose for everyone, and the dose depends on the form. Drip studies used 500 to 750 mg, one clinic lists shots of 100 and 200 mg, and oral trials used 150 to 1,200 mg of NMN or 100 to 1,000 mg of NR a day. Ask your doctor before you choose.

What is a normal NAD+ IV dose?

In published studies, 500 mg a day for 4 days and 750 mg over 6 hours. One New York clinic lists 250 mg and 500 mg drips. Drips run slowly: 500 mg took 97 minutes on average in a 2026 study.

How much NAD+ is in a NAD+ shot?

One New York clinic lists shots of 100 mg and 200 mg. We found no published trial of NAD+ shots in healthy adults, so no study shows which dose works.

How much NMN raises NAD+?

In a 60-day randomized trial of healthy middle-aged adults, 300, 600 and 900 mg of NMN a day all raised blood NAD+, with the highest levels at 600 and 900 mg. The trial found no safety issues.

Is 1,000 mg of NR a day safe?

In an 8-week randomized trial, 1,000 mg of NR a day caused no flushing, and adverse events did not differ from placebo. Ask your doctor before you take it, especially if you take medicines.

Is 500 mg of NAD+ the same as 500 mg of NMN?

No. A drip puts NAD+ straight into the blood, while NMN must be absorbed and turned into NAD+. NMN is also a smaller molecule (334 g/mol against 663 g/mol), so 500 mg of NMN contains about twice as many molecules as 500 mg of NAD+.
